What Is recall of Haining Degao Benches Class Action Settlement?

TJX recalled almost 11,000 Haining Degao benches as they can pose a fall hazard, with multiple consumers hurting themselves while sitting on collapsing benches in-store. 

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) website published the recall June 8. It applies to about 10,850 Haining Degao benches.

What Is This Class Action All About?

According to the recall notice, the legs can break or detach from the bench when a consumer sits on it, posing an injury hazard.

TJX received 21 reports of the legs breaking or detaching from the bench while a consumer was seated on a bench at a store, the recall says. This led to 17 reports of injuries, including bruises, scratches and back strains.

The company is not currently facing legal action over the recall, but Top Class Actions follows recalls closely as they sometimes end in class action lawsuits.

Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled benches and contact TJX for instructions on how to dispose of them to receive a full refund, the recall states. Consumers can also return the recalled benches to any Marshalls or T.J. Maxx store for a full refund.

This recall involves benches with a cushion top and four wooden legs that screw into the bench. The cushion top was sold in navy, gray, cream, white and yellow.  

The recalled bench measures 42 inches long by 15.5 inches deep by 17.5 inches tall, with “HAINING DEGAO HOME FURNISHINGS CO., LTD.” and “MADE IN CHINA” printed on a label underneath the bench.

TJX sold the benches at Marshalls and T.J. Maxx stores nationwide from Dec. 2021 through March 2023 for about $130.

In March, TJX announced a similar recall of more than 82,000 office chairs after multiple reports of them breaking, causing injuries.
