What Is Allergan Breast Implants Cancer Class Action Settlement?
On May 14, 2020, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) issued a warning letter to two breast implant manufacturers, Allergan of California and Ideal Implant Incorporated of Texas, for failure to comply with regulatory requirements in studies they conducted to determine the potential risks and safety of two textured breast implants recalled in 2019.

The FDA said it made the request “to protect women from breast implant-associated anaplastic large cell lymphoma (BIA-ALCL).”
Allergan likely did not warn those who developed anaplastic large cell lymphoma after breast augmentation surgery that they could get cancer from breast implants and may benefit from a consultation with a medical device attorney to see if they qualify to file a breast implant lawsuit.
What Is This Class Action All About?
The FDA reported it had tallied 1,130 global BIA-ALCL cases as of April 1, 2022, with 505 of those coming from the United States. The FDA stated 59 people died from the cancer, including 14 from the U.S.
The FDA is still working with the American Society of Plastic Surgeons to understand the exact risk for cancer from breast implants. Some estimate that 1 in 3,817 patients will develop BIA-ALCL, while others estimate only 1 in 30,000 patients will develop breast implant cancer.
